Story Of The Durian

Durian is a unique tropical fruit and it’s popular in Southeast Asia, where many of the people called it as “The King of fruits”. It’s distinguished for its large size, thorn- covered rind, unique taste and aroma. The term of Durian is derived from the Malay language word “Duri” which means thorn. Durian contain very high in nutrients and Vitamin among other fruits.

On May 30, China’s General Administration of Customs approved the import of frozen whole durian from Malaysia. Unlike other countries, Malaysia Durian are all naturally ripen on the trees without go through a ripening process. This makes the taste, texture and colour of the durian more attractive and popular.

“Do you know? The Malaysian Department of Agriculture began registration of local durian species since 1934 and currently 200 species have been officially registered.”

Our Durians

Our farm will mainly nurture the Durian varieties of Musang King, Black Thorn & D101. These varieties are popular locally as well as internationally.

  • The fruit shape is oval in light greenish yellow.

  • Its bottom usually has a star shape.

  • It has a thick, golden yellow flesh, very smooth with little or no fibres.

  • The texture is thick and creamy, rich in aroma, sweet and slightly bitter.

  • Black Thorn is the latest durian entry by DOA.

  • Its name came from a dry shrivelled remnant of the flower stamen still attached at the bottom, which looks like a black thorn.

  • Its flesh is reddish-orange, and the texture is fleshy and delicate,complex balance of sweet and bitter.

  • D101 has a hint of herbal scent.

  • Its shell has a deep shade of green with a consistent colour.

  • Its thorns are long, conical, and very sharp.

  • The flesh is reddish and the texture is smooth and it has a special creamy taste.

  • It is bitterer and less sweet than other varieties.
